He replaces Brian Jolliffe, who is about to retire, has held the position for the past nine years and has started the process of turning Marac into a registered bank.
Sam Maling, the chairman of Marac and its parent company, Pyne Gould Corporation, said Mr Greenslade's appointment followed an international search and he was chosen because of his knowledge of New Zealand banking and broader commercial background.
After attending John McGlashan College, Mr Greenslade graduated from the University of Otago in 1983 with a law degree.
He practised law in Wellington for several years before joining Southpac, which was later absorbed into the National Bank.
His banking career continued with its merger with ANZ, and he rose to hold the position of managing director of corporate and commercial banking for ANZ National Bank.
For the past two years, Mr Greenslade has been running his own consultancy business and investment interests.
In an interview, Auckland-based Mr Greenslade said his initial priority would be to complete registration of Marac as a New Zealand-owned bank, a challenge he described as exciting.
He will join Marac on April 27 with Mr Jolliffe retiring on June 30.
