About 30 members of the Wakatipu business community were invited on board the telco's showroom on wheels outside the Queenstown Events Centre on Wednesday to preview the new technology.
Seamless connection to remote cloud computing, video conferencing in high definition, streaming high definition content, downloading content such as feature films in minutes and watching live television in real time were among the benefits to be gained over existing 3G coverage.
Vodafone New Zealand external affairs director Tom Chignell told the audience the Wakatipu would enjoy better coverage by population than Auckland via a dozen cell sites, including three in central Queenstown, two at Queenstown Airport and one in Glenorchy.
To get 4G, customers need to have a 4G-capable smartphone or tablet and be in a 4G coverage area.
