Wakatipu crews successful in finals

Wakatipu won four top medals on opening finals day at the Maadi Cup yesterday.

The Queenstown secondary school contingent had an impressive day on the water, winning one gold, two silvers and a bronze in A-finals at Lake Ruataniwha yesterday.

Harry Lightfoot and Sebastian Watson won gold in the boys under-17 double sculls, finishing in a time of 6min 52.66sec.

They showed their strength across the grades when Xavier Small, Ashton White, Toby Tregidga, Sebastian Watson and Mia Pagan won silver in the boys under-18 coxed quad sculls with their time of 6min 27.05min.

Charlie Manser, Max Davis, McKellar Thornton, Jasper Crawford and Abbey Pedersen secured silver in the boys under-16 coxed quad sculls in 6min 42.62sec and Zara Small, Chelsea Wood, Caitlyn Purdue, Eve Pagan and Amelie won bronze in the girls under-15 coxed quad sculls in 7min 49.03sec.

Dunstan (Max Smith and Christopher McIntosh) won silver in the boys under-15 double sculls finishing in 7min 20.05sec and Mount Aspiring (Hugo Sinclair and Harry Hope) won bronze in the boys under-18 novice double sculls in 7min 13.84sec.

Otago Boys’ High School (Seth Affleck, Carlos Dean, Toby Ollerenshaw, Hoani Kiwara, Jackson Templeton, Ben Glover, Jude Smillie, Ollie Scott and Hunter Ruxton) scored silver in the boys under-18 novice coxed eight, finishing in 6min 27.04sec.

Other Otago schools will also be in the hunt for A medals today at the final day of Maadi Cup in Twizel.
