Otago well represented in Maadi Cup semis, finals

Otago's young rowers have made a strong start to the business end of Maadi Cup.

Several secondary school crews have already qualified for A finals, while others will be gunning for their finals spots in the semifinals at Lake Ruataniwha today.

Central Otago rowers are again at the forefront of the crews heading into the A finals in the coming days.

Dunstan rowers Tahlia Nelson and Niamh O’Docherty have both qualified for the girls under-17 single sculls and join Ellie King, Emer Bryant and Lily Kain in the girls under-17 coxed quad sculls.

Charlotte Crosbie and Amelie Sutherland-Harris will also race in the girls under-18 novice double sculls.

Mount Aspiring’s Hugo Sinclair, Harry Hope, William Pascoe, Alex Pederson and Caroline Smith will compete in the boys under-18 novice coxed quad sculls.

Wakatipu have also been strong and will race in the boys under-18 coxed quad sculls, boys under-16 coxed quad sculls and the boys and girls under-15 coxed quad sculls.

Among the other highlights include Columba College rowers Ciara Paterson in the girls under-17 single sculls final, and Siobhan Brennan, Ella Colquhoun, Sarah Stephens, Charlee Smith and Kate Baskerville in the girls under-18 novice coxed four. Waitaki Girls’ will also race in the latter final.

Matthew O’Meara, Oliver Hamilton, Angus Loe, Charlie Carran, Aidan Seyb (boys under-18 coxed quad sculls) and Noah McCoubrey, Dan O’Brien, Oliver Colling, Tristan Steenkamp and Seyb (boys under-18 novice coxed quad sculls) will represent John McGlashan in the finals.

Georgia Graham has looked strong for St Hilda’s and will race in the girls under-16 single sculls.

Lola Castles, Georgia Cockburn, Honor Garden, Esther Whiteside and Bonnie McGregor will also represent the school in the girls under-17 coxed quad sculls.

Otago Boys’ will also compete in the boys under-18 single sculls, boys under-18 novice coxed four, boys under-16 coxed quad sculls.

Most other schools are also represented throughout the semifinals which continue in Twizel today.
