Angus Loe and Matthew O’Meara had a point to prove.

The John McGlashan duo settled for silver in the boys under-17 double sculls at Maadi Cup last year.

They were not about to let the gold slip through their fingers against Wakatipu pair Xavier Small and Ashton White again.

Loe and O’Meara executed their game plan perfectly to win gold in boys under-18 double sculls, finishing in 6min 49.74sec ahead of Small and White, who took silver this year, in 6min 53.21sec.

It was a great race from both and made for an Otago top-two finish to round out the Maadi Cup at Lake Ruataniwha on Saturday.

O’Meara also won bronze in the boys under-18 single sculls finishing 00.02sec ahead of Jimmy Middleditch, of Cashmere, to reach the podium.

Wakatipu, who was named first-equal with Cashmere as the champion sculling school, also won gold in the boys under-17 coxed quad sculls.

Charlie Manser, Sebastian Watson, Max Davis, Harry Lightfoot and Mia Pagan finished in 6min 33.32sec.

The Otago Boys’ crew of Seth Affleck, Toby Ollerenshaw, Jude Smillie, Ollie Scott and Hunter Ruxton won gold in the boys under-18 novice coxed four in 7min 01.18sec.

Columba also took top spot on the podium.

Nova Whiston, Anika Leyser, Isla Nicholson, Georgia Drummond and Kate Baskerville won gold in the girls under-16 coxed four with their time of 7min 32.14sec.

Bella Breen and Ruby Smith won gold for Dunstan in the girls under-16 double sculls, finishing in 7min 45.31sec.

They joined Poppy Tuffin, Phoebe Harrex and Lily Kain to win silver in the girls under-16 coxed quad sculls (7min 46.02sec) and Breen also joined Charlotte Crosbie for silver in the girls under-15 double sculls (7min 58.71sec).

St Hilda’s pair Perri Hore and Georgia Graham finished with bronze in the girls under-17 coxless pairs (8min 04.32sec) and Waitaki Girl’s four Tessa Wright, Bridget Spittle, Hanna Strachan, Emily Wainwright and Breanna Kingan secured bronze in the girls under-18 novice coxed four (7min 52.45sec).
