Thousands gather in Auckland for final

Rugby World Cup fan zones are already starting to fill up, with thousands starting to gather on Auckland's waterfront, hours ahead of tonight's All Black/France final.

A steady stream of rugby fans was heading onto Queen's Wharf before midday, and some volunteers told nzherald.co.nz the crowds were similar in size to those seen on the opening night.

In Mt Eden, the suburb which houses Eden Park, the venue for tonight's final, people are already out on the streets wearing All Black t-shirts.

In cafes and restaurants around the park, many All Black supporters dressed head to foot in black are talking of the chances of the team repeating its World Cup victory in 1987.

On Mt Eden's Bellevue Road, someone has overnight drawn a huge 'Go All Blacks' sign in the middle of the road in chalk. On the corner of Bellevue Road and Horoeka Avenue some residents have adorned a tree in the middle of the intersection with New Zealand flags, silver ferns and necklaces of black flowers. The sign reads on the tree 'Go the All Blacks (please leave this 'til Monday to show support)'.

Already some bus stops along Mt Eden Rd and Dominion Rd have throngs of All Black supporters waiting to catch the bus into the central city to celebrate the final game and to walk the fan trail.
