The Southern Youth Choir presents its second major concert for the year tomorrow night , from 7pm, at St Paul’s Cathedral, performing Vivaldi’s Gloria and a varied selection of other works.

Choir director John Buchanan said the concert was a big undertaking for the choir, which was still recovering from the impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic and the exam challenges facing its mostly student singers.

"It is the first time we have done such a major work as Vivaldi’s Gloria, so everyone is really looking forward to that," Buchanan said.

For the performance of the Gloria, the Southern Youth Choir and soprano soloists Rosie Auchinvole and Rosie McAllister would be accompanied by an ensemble, comprising Skyla Murray (violin), Leo Malcolm (violin), Grace Shaw (viola), and Boudewijn Keenan (cello), with Sharon McLennan (chamber organ), Alan Edwards (harpsichord), and Ralph Miller (trumpet).

The concert will also feature works by Takere Komene, Morten Lauridsen, Josef Gabriel Rheinberger, Billy Joel and Mark Hayes.
