High demand and sold-out shows months in advance have led to extra dates being added to Rock Tenors’ "The Anthems Tour" Dunedin schedule.

The Dunedin season will now run over seven nights, from July 14 to 16, and July 18 to 22 at the Mayfair Theatre.

After a sell-out debut last year, producer Doug Kamo was encouraged by the show’s popularity and ongoing requests to tour it to the regions, to go all out this year.

The tour will run through July and August, with dates in Dunedin, Greymouth, Nelson, Blenheim, Christchurch, Ashburton, Oamaru, Wanaka, Gore and Invercargill.

Delighted with the audience response to the Rock Tenors show, Kamo said it had "struck a chord and found its own audience very quickly".

"It’s really exciting to be working on a project that has this level of energy about it."

The tour features vocalists Luke Butson, Justin Wilson, Steve Jones, James Adams and Ben Hayward, who have appeared in hit musicals We Will Rock You, Jersey Boys, Grease — The Arena Spectacular, Phantom of the Opera, Wicked, Les Miserables, Miss Saigon and Mamma Mia. They will be accompanied by a top five-piece band.

"Their experience and vocal ability across multiple music genres from opera to musical theatre and contemporary rock to thrash metal allows them to reinvent the standard rock vocal arrangements with harmonic complexity that creates an incredibly exciting, immersive and nostalgic rock experience," Kamo said.

The show will feature arrangements of much-loved rock anthems, paying homage to the biggest acts in music, including Bon Jovi, Led Zeppelin, Kiss, Toto, David Bowie, Meatloaf, INXS, Poison, Supertramp, Aerosmith and Queen.

Directed by Kamo, with musical direction by Michael Grant and Che Long, "The Anthems Tour" is a two-hour full-scale theatrical production.

"It was a tricky process selecting the songs to perform, and we are really pleased with the outcome — we have many great, well-known anthems that suit the vocal styles of our singers," Kamo said.
