She started learning highland dancing when she was younger before taking up tap.
Her brother was a member of the then-Dunedin Operatic, now Musical Theatre Dunedin, and she followed him into that.
Over the years she has been involved in countless performances and more recently tried her hand at directing.
"It was something just a bit different," Ms Hope said.
She enjoyed the camaraderie and friendships that performing arts created.
When she was made a life member in 2004, she was shocked.
"You don’t do these things to get recognition but boy it is nice, especially when you’re not expecting it."
