The Dunedin Performing Arts Competitions Society is celebrating its 120th anniversary year with a series of musical competition events across the year.
This week, southern singers will be highlighted, with vocal competitions being held at Burns Hall.
DPACS president Judy Bellingham said the competitions, divided into junior and senior sections, had attracted dozens of young singers from across the South.
"We are very pleased with the response from our young performers, and are looking forward to a really wonderful festival."
The showcase of vocal talent will culminate in the Otago Daily Times Southern Aria final, adjudicated by Dame Kiri Te Kanawa and former Aria winner Patrick Power, to be held on Saturday, at 7pm, in the Glenroy Auditorium. The Aria preliminaries will be held in two sessions in Burns Hall tomorrow at 3.45pm and 6pm. All Aria events are open to the public. Tickets to the final are available through ticketmaster.
