Golden Centre manager Nina Rivett and office co-ordinator Danielle Joseph were on hand at the centre’s atrium during Friday’s Poppy Day collection for the Dunedin RSA, and were delighted by people’s response.
"We are just so thrilled to have had such a fantastic response to the project — we are up to 2400 poppies and counting."
Children’s poppy- making sessions were also proving popular, she said.
The poppies are part of a large-scale display, created in conjunction with the Dunedin RSA, featuring an exhibition of photographs commemorating the journey from Anzac Cove in 1915 to modern deployments in the Middle East.
Mrs Rivett said the project aimed to honour and pay tribute this Anzac Day "to all of those who have served in both times of conflict and peacekeeping operations".
The project, which will be on display, also aims to raise funds for the Dunedin RSA, $1 will be donated for every poppy received, up to a maximum of $5000.
