The buzz of reconnecting with live audiences is a thrill for Lyttelton-based artist Mel Parsons, on tour this month with her band in support of new album Slow Burn.

Parsons and her band — Josh Logan (guitar/piano), Jed Parsons (drums/vocals) and Thomas Isbister (bass) — have already played North Island dates, and begin the southern leg of their tour tonight in Nelson.

The Dunedin show will be held this Saturday night at 8pm, at Port Chalmers Town Hall.

“It’s been a long couple of years for everyone, so it’s an absolute buzz to finally be getting back on stage sharing music with audiences again,’’ Parsons said.

‘‘I’m so excited about this new record and bringing it to life with the band.

‘‘And it’s so nice to be on the road again and to get to visit amazing places around the county,’’ she said.

‘‘Touring is my favourite thing to do as a performer, so connecting with audiences again is really heartwarming.’’

Written at Parsons’ Lyttelton home, Slow Burn was recorded at LOHO studio in Christchurch in 2020.

It was produced by Logan, who also played on the record, along with Jed Parsons and Aaron Stewart (bass).

The process was not particularly affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, although it did slow the album’s release and tour.

Released in September, Slow Burn debuted at No 3 in the Official Top 40 album charts and No 2 in the Top 20 NZ album charts, and has had a positive response from fans.

‘‘People seem to be really enjoying it, which is what you hope for as an artist.’’
