The spring flower show to be held next Friday, September 16, at West Taieri Rugby Club, is being organised by Outram Garden Club, which has taken over the event this year.
Outram Flower Show convener Denise Chaplin said the show had previously been run by parishioners of Maungatua Presbyterian Church, but had been in hiatus for the past few years.
"It’s a great community event, so the Outram Garden Club decided to take it on, and now we will have two shows each year — in February and spring," Mrs Chaplin said.
Entries for the Outram Flower Show are accepted from anyone interested, and will include exhibits from children at Outram School and Outram Playcentre, retirement village residents and keen gardeners from across the Taieri.
Many local gardens were already blooming with daffodils, narcissi, rhododendrons, camellias, hellebores, polyanthus, hyacinths, and other flowers, so there should be a great variety of flowers and arrangements on display, she said.
Along with general bloom and arrangement categories, there will also be sections for children, retirement villages and rest homes, as well as floral art.
"The show has always had great support from the whole community in the past, so we are really hoping that everyone gets behind it again," she said.
"It’s a real country show, with home baking, cake and stalls included, so it will be a lot of fun for everyone."
Mrs Chaplin said Outram Garden Club was one of the largest garden clubs in greater Dunedin, and was very active, with meetings held on the third Thursday of the month, from 7pm at Outram community hall.
"The Taieri is a great place for gardening — there are a lot of beautiful gardens out here to enjoy," she said.
