NZIFF full programme announced

Whanau Marama New Zealand International Film Festival (NZIFF) has announced its full 2022 programme, set to screen at Rialto Cinemas Dunedin from August 11-21.

NZIFF general manager Sally Woodfield could not be prouder of the festival programme.

"As well as having an outstanding collection of films from Aotearoa, our international selection is packed with award-winning, critically acclaimed films from all around the world," she said.

New Zealand director Tearepa Kahi’s much anticipated action-drama Muru will open the festival in Dunedin and Swedish director Ruben Ostlund’s Palme d’Or-winning Triangle of Sadness will screen on the closing night.

Other films directly from Cannes Film Festival 2022 include Charlotte Wells’ directorial debut Aftersun, David Cronenberg’s sci-fi spellbinder Crimes of the Future, Queer Palm winner Joyland and Norwegian black comedy Sick of Myself.

Documentaries include a stunning portrait of French vulcanologists Maurice and Katia Krafft in Fire of Love (2022), directed by Sara Dosa.

Among the collection of New Zealand films is documentary Gloriavale, Tom Levesque’s feature debut Shut Eye and New Zealand-US co-production Ka Po.

Other 2022 programme highlights range from children’s stop-motion delight Marcel the Shell with Shoes On to vacation-from-hell thriller Speak No Evil from Danish director Christian Tafdrup.
