60+ Club

Want to go to the movies but not on your own?

The 60+ Club Movie Group could be the answer.

It is one of the many groups enjoyed by members of the Dunedin 60+ Club.

Each month a film is selected in liaison with the Rialto Cinema, then our co-ordinators Carol and Bob encourage members to sign up and go along as a group.

In August, they attended Where the Crawdads Sing, followed by a get-together for coffee.

The September film is still under consideration and will be notified at the next monthly meeting of the club.

Carol and Bob will be present to take names of those interested, and will have the film listed on the website so anyone else can contact them to be added to the list.

A collegial working relationship with Rialto management has seen the success of the Movie Group over many years.

The other co-ordinators available at the monthly meetings are for the Culture and Coffee and Tavern Lunches groups.

Both of these have the next event or venue details, together with the list to sign up.

These are published on the club website together with contact numbers for anyone else to also sign up and be part of these fabulous groups.

The website also lists the many other groups that may be of interest, along with contact details.

In August at the monthly meeting, we were fortunate to have club member Anne Simpson talking about her Africa travels, together with amazing photos and stories.

We were grateful to Anne for stepping up when the scheduled speaker was unable to attend and the organised replacement got sick.

Anne also organises speakers for the monthly meetings, working hard to provide variety and interest for members. She does a fabulous job.

The next general meeting is on Wednesday, September 7.

Doors open at 1pm for a start of 1.30pm.

The speaker will be Sarah Gallagher from Heritage New Zealand Pouhere Taonga, who will share stories from the New Zealand Heritage List Rarangi Korero: the Hotere studio and a "charge" of lime kilns.

The koha for the monthly general meeting is $2, and there is a door prize for two lucky members.

Noticeboards, plus a great selection of books and puzzles (free for members to borrow), will be available.

The annual subscription of $10 can be paid to the treasurer if not yet paid.

We meet in the Blind Low Vision Hall, 458 Hillside Rd, enter through the Law St entrance, turn left to the Social Hall.

No parking within the property but ample parking is available on nearby streets. Bus stops are handy.

Visit dunedin60plus.co.nz for current and upcoming activities. You can also join via the website.

The club contacts are Noel, 455-2586, and Len, 027 330-1696.
