Volunteer South is putting its best foot forward in honour of National Volunteer Week, June 19-25, hosting two expos to highlight the range of roles available.
Volunteer South community connector Hagino Baker said volunteering was a great way for people to participate in their community "in a meaningful way with a whole host of benefits".
"We are keen to showcase the huge range of organisations that are seeking volunteers to as wide an audience as possible," she said.
Expos will be held on Tuesday, June 21, in Dunedin and Queenstown.
The Dunedin event will run from 11am to 2pm in Wall Street mall (next to Lush).
Ms Baker said holding the volunteering expo in the central city would hopefully make it accessible for all, and she encouraged anyone interested in volunteering to come along and have a chat.
"There are a great range of organisations coming, so there is sure to be something that sparks your passion," she said.
Among the local organisations represented at the event are Otago Neighbourhood Support, Home of St Barnabas Trust, Children’s Recreational Education Support Trust, Plunket, St John, Life Matters, Blind Low Vision NZ, Able Minds, Dunedin Curtain Bank, Heart Kids Otago, Stitch Kitchen, Friends of Dunedin Botanic Garden, and Mosgiel Taieri Community Patrol.
Brochures and information from other organisations will also be available at the expo.
"We hope the expo will help to highlight the amazing range of voluntary opportunities out there, and to give people a chance to talk with these organisations one-on-one," Ms Baker said.
This year, National Volunteer Week coincides with the new public holiday for Matariki, June 24. This year’s theme is "Time to Shine/He wa piataata."
