As early voting gets under way in New Zealand’s parliamentary election, the vast majority of Dunedin’s eligible voters are enrolled and ready to go.

Currently, 90.21% of eligible voters are enrolled in the Dunedin electorate and 94.19% of voters are enrolled in the Taieri electorate.

Early voting started on Monday, and voters have a long list of polling places available to cast their vote between now and October 14.

On election day itself, all voting places will be open from 9am-7pm.

To enrol and vote in the general election, you must be 18 years or older and a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident.

If you enrolled by September 10, you will have received an election pack in the mail, which includes an EasyVote card, which makes voting quicker and easier.

If you have an EasyVote card, bring it with you, and vote close to home. It makes voting faster.

Preliminary results of the general election will be released progressively from 7pm on October 14.

The official count starts the day after election day and official results, including special declaration votes and overseas votes, will be declared on November 3.
