Buses option during festival

People joining Matariki celebrations in Dunedin will be able to catch public buses to festivities over the long weekend.

Otago Regional Council transport manager Lorraine Cheyne said buses would offer people a great way to get around when attending events in the city’s Puaka Matariki Festival, "particularly [for] the Matariki drone show on Saturday evening, which is expected to draw thousands of people to the University Oval".

The Matariki Drone Show and Night Market will run from 5.30pm on Saturday, at Logan Park. More than 200 high-tech drones will perform a display choreographed by Kai Tahu artists. The event is presented by the New Zealand International Science Festival.

"With our usual Saturday timetable operating, there will be five buses stopping at Logan Park, near the venue, every hour."

The public holiday for Matariki is tomorrow, which means buses in Dunedin will be running on a Sunday timetable.
