The sale, held on the Regent Theatre stage from 10am to 8pm on Saturday, was hailed a great success by organisers and raised about $19,000 for the theatre.
Regent Music Sale co-ordinator Kath Wallace said the total raised was "fantastic".
"We are very happy with the way it all went, and delighted with the result," she said.
"It was great to see so many people on the theatre stage, picking up lots of bargains and helping to support the theatre."
Mrs Wallace thanked all the volunteers who helped with the music sale, the Regent Theatre staff, Task Force Green for their help with packing in before the sale and the City of Dunedin Army Cadet Unit with helping to cleanup afterwards.
"I also want to thank the people of Dunedin for coming out in such numbers to support the sale."
The regular Sunday book-sorting sessions for next year’s Regent 24 Hour Book Sale will be suspended for the winter months, but people can still donate books.
Books can be dropped off at the Regent Theatre, at BP 2Go Mornington or phone the Regent box office on 477-8597.
