Tennis: Finalists decided

Eastern Harbour, which qualified third, beat second qualifier Mornington- Roslyn Black 4-0 on Wednesday night and will meet Balmacewen in Dunedin men's premier club tennis final tomorrow.

Harbour beat Mornington-Roslyn Blue in last Saturday's sudden-death minor semifinal to earn the right to contest the midweek fixture, after the Black team had lost to Balmacewen in the major semifinal.

Again it was Campbell Higgins who led from the front as he beat Oliver Reid 6-1, 6-0 at No 1.

Reid was promoted in the absence of Oliver Cuthill, who was unavailable because of a family bereavement.

The Mornington-Roslyn team found their promotions beyond them as Philip Mirfin beat Oliver Scott 6-3, 6-2 and Ryan Eggers beat Adam Williams 7-5, 3-6, 7-5.

Eggers has had great success in closing out tight three-setters all season.

Dimitar Trifunowski completed the clean sheet with a 6-2, 7-5 win against Tom Beamish.

The doubles became dead rubbers and were not played, because of time constraints.

Balmacewen will also be affected in the final with its top two players from earlier rounds, Conrad Wong and Hee Bum Chung, having left the city.

Despite finishing first in the round robin results, Balmacewen will start as the underdog against Eastern Harbour, which has been resurgent since the return of Higgins from Tauranga, and he will be a strong favourite to complete an unbeaten club season.
