Some competition returning

Club sport is returning in a small way this weekend.

Covid-19 and the subsequent lockdown proved a rude interruption.

But under Alert Level 2, sport can resume.

Sport Otago events and sport capability lead Michael Smith has been appointed Covid-19 response manager and is working with Dunedin clubs to help them return safely.

The Dunedin senior men’s club basketball final will be held at the Edgar Centre tomorrow.

In bowls, the PBA finals will be staged at the Dunedin Lawn Bowls Stadium.

Cycling Otago has the James Faulding Memorial Handicap scheduled.

Golf is back, the city’s athletics clubs have events scheduled, and there is petanque and yachting to look forward to as well.

The South City Royals will host Costal Spirit in a Southern League football fixture at Logan Park Turf at noon tomorrow.

Smith asked that people follow the usual rules of social engagement these days. That means staying 2m away from others, and everyone is encouraged to wear a mask.

QR codes will be distributed around the venues. They will be positioned prominently.

"If you are going out and have a kid playing, we are just asking that one parent or support person goes along and that will just cut our numbers down around the grounds.

"If people could keep their 2m and put their masks on, that would be great."
