As part of a girls under-15 tournament be played at Hancock Park on Friday, the World Cup, won by the Black Ferns in Ireland last month, will make an appearance.
Highlanders women's rugby development co-ordinator Warren Kearney said New Zealand Rugby was keen to get the cup out and around the country to help promote the women's game.
The cup was at a tournament in Christchurch yesterday and would be in Wellington today before it headed south to Hancock Park on Friday.
Along with the trophy, World Cup-winning players in halfback Kendra Cocksedge, first five-eighth Victoria Subritzky-Nafatali and fullback Selica Winiata would be there.
All three started for the Black Ferns in the final against England in Belfast on August 27.
Kearney said it was a bit of a coup getting the trio to Dunedin and was a great boost for the game and the girls who would play at the tournament.
There would be a question-and-answer session with the three players after the tournament and chances to meet them.
The game was becoming an option for young females and he said highlighting the Black Ferns' win was a great way to increase the popularity of the sport.
The under-15 tournament started last year with 10 teams but had grown to 14 this year.
He said teams were coming from all across the Highlanders region and Southland Girls' High School had entered a team for the first time.
Southland Girls' was the reigning first XV national champion.
Games would be 10-a-side, with 10-minute halves.
A combined team is being formed from schools in Central Otago.
Columba College is the defending champion and will line up again.
