Paul Williams says he will know which dressing room to go into when he gets to Carisbrook on Saturday.

Williams is likely to turn out at fullback for Canterbury on Saturday in the second-round Air New Zealand Cup match against Otago.

Williams played for the Highlanders in this year's Super 14 and had a stellar season, proving dependable at both the back and on the wing.

It was his fourth year with the franchise, after he first played for the team in 2003 as a 19-year-old.

Unfortunately, halfway through that season, Williams broke a leg badly and took a few years to get over it.

He also joined the Highlanders the following year, and in 2007, but it was only this year that he was able to play to his full potential for the southern franchise.

He said the leg was now fine.

Contracted to the Canterbury union, Williams said it was not up to him to decide who he would play for in next year's Super 14.

He just wanted to play his best and to his potential, and the rest was out of his hands.

It would be great to come back to Carisbrook and see a few familiar faces, he said.

He knew the plays of a few of the Otago players, but that was not a big advantage as those same players knew his game.

Canterbury suffered a shock 24-25 loss to Manawatu in the opening round of the competition, and Williams said it was a sobering lesson for the side.

"We got taught a lesson, in short.

We were taught how to be more urgent and more diligent with the ball."

He said Otago's win over Southland was impressive and Otago looked to have a good team.

Williams (25) was called into the wider training squad for All Black training at the end of the Super 14, and although not picked for the All Blacks he said he loved being part of the next level.

With Leon MacDonald in doubt owing to effects of head-knocks, Williams may be the next cab off the rank for the All Blacks' Grand Slam tour at the end of the season.

"It was great excitement to be called into the camp and see how the All Blacks operate. It is definitely something I want to be part of."
