Tourists bring their share of baggage

Getting around New Zealand without losing anything might be an issue for the British and Irish Lions - in more ways than one.

The team arrived in Auckland yesterday alongside the 3900kg of baggage it will haul around the country.

You have to hope for their sake that nothing gets misplaced, as clearly they have only brought the bare essentials.

They have really cut back on the playing and training kit as well - just 355 bags.

It all begs the question: will the 41 players and almost 50 support staff survive if something goes missing?

Imagine the uproar we will hear from the gaggle of ex-Lions players and coaches should something go astray.

Will the range of choices at the buffet table be too much of a distraction?

Is having to travel together on the two luxury buses not dangerous?

What if someone gets a runny nose after being exposed to sneezing team-mate?

Most importantly, what will they do if one of their rugby balls goes over a fence at training?

Clearly it would be a conspiracy and give the hosts an unfair advantage, on a par with the haka.

But when you are travelling on the cheap and barely getting by, 36 days is a long time not to lose anything.

For the Lions it will be almost impossible. They are playing the All Blacks, after all.
