Head of Spark Sport Jeff Latch said Stevenson, who has been a commentator and host at Sky TV for many years, would be a key personality for next year’s Rugby World Cup coverage.
"It’s great to have an experienced presenter and commentator of Scotty’s calibre on the team. We’ll announce more details in due course but you can be sure that we’ll make good use of Scotty’s varied talents," Mr Latch said.
In addition to his Rugby World Cup 2019 responsibilities, Stevenson will work across other sports properties on Spark Sport as well as taking on a sports reporting role for TVNZ.
TVNZ head of news and current affairs John Gillespie said the network was excited to have Stevenson on board.
"Scotty’s what you call an impact player — he’ll bring an exciting dimension to our sports coverage with a varied remit across his different roles."
Stevenson is the first appointment for the Spark Sport and TVNZ Rugby World Cup 2019 team.
The full presenter and commentary line-up will be revealed next year.
All Rugby World Cup games will be available on Spark Sport, and selected games will be available free to air from TVNZ.
