The Southern Steel and the Highlanders will swap their respective playing kits for a bit of glamour tomorrow night, to help raise funds for the Christchurch Earthquake Appeal.

The two sporting franchises will join forces to host a Casino Royale cocktail event at the Dunedin Casino, with plenty of fun on the cards.

The event, which has attracted 13 Highlanders rugby players and 13 Steel netballers, will have players from both teams serving drinks and looking their very best.

Highlanders lock Joe Tuineau was confident his team-mates would scrub up well.

"We might even have some of the guys in a tuxedo, so we'll definitely sharpen up for it. There's a few scars on faces and scruffy beards, so it will be a change in look for a lot of the boys," he said.

The Highlanders play the Cheetahs tonight in a Super 15 match at Carisbrook while the Steel players are also in town, taking on the Tactix at the Edgar Centre tomorrow afternoon.

Steel shooter Daneka Wipiiti, who is Tuineau's partner, said her team-mates would relish the opportunity to swap their sneakers for heels and cocktail attire.

"People are used to seeing us in tracksuits, so they will certainly see us in a different light."

Casino Royale starts at 8pm and tickets cost $20. With the ticket is a free cocktail drink and a $5 gambling chip.

Casino general manager Karen Williams said it was a great way to raise money for a deserving cause and she hoped people would join in the fun.

Tickets can be bought from The Radio Network in Dunedin, the Steel and the Highlanders franchises and the Dunedin Casino.
