Rugby: Williams, Thorn to start for Crusaders

All Blacks Sonny Bill Williams and Brad Thorn return to the Crusaders' starting line-up for their Super 15 rugby match against the Reds in Brisbane on Sunday.

Williams, who missed the Crusaders' 25-19 win over the Chiefs in Napier last Saturday with a bruised knee, replaces Ryan Crotty at second five-eighths.

Lock Thorn, who made his return from three weeks on the sidelines with a calf injury as a second half replacement against the Chiefs, bumps tryscorer Luke Romano to the reserves bench.

In the third change to the starting side, Owen Franks replaces his brother Ben at tighthead prop.

On the reserves bench, Quentin MacDonald, who missed the Chiefs match with a sore lower back, is bracketed with David Hall and Matt Todd, who missed the Napier game with a corked thigh, is in doubt with Joe Wheeler ready to fill his place.

The front row pair of prop Wyatt Crockett and hooker Corey Flynn will both start after today signing new two-year deals with the Crusaders and the New Zealand Rugby Union.

Not considered due to injury were Israel Dagg (thigh), Sean Maitland (foot), Kahn Fotuali'i (knee), Adam Whitelock (chest muscle), Andy Ellis (thumb) and Sam Whitelock (ankle).

Team: Tom Marshall, Brent Ward, Robbie Fruean, Sonny Bill Williams, Zac Guildford, Dan Carter, Willi Heinz, Kieran Read, Richie McCaw (captain), George Whitelock, Chris Jack, Brad Thorn, Owen Franks, Corey Flynn, Wyatt Crockett. Reserves: Quentin MacDonald/David Hall, Ben Franks, Luke Romano, Matt Todd/Joe Wheeler, Steve Alfeld, Mat Berquist, Ryan Crotty.
