Rugby: Wakatipu coach confident

Wakatipu will be looking to square the ledger when it hosts Arrowtown in the ''battle of the basin'' in Queenstown tomorrow.

Wakatipu lost the first-round encounter in the second game of the season in Arrowtown.

Both sides have progressed since then and Wakatipu coach Justin Pewhairangi is confident his side can topple one of the big improvers of 2015.

He said his team was excited about the game.

''Everyone's pretty amped up about it. Everyone's really looking forward to it,'' Pewhairangi said.

Asked how his side was going to win the game, he said it was all about controlling possession.

''Our 10 is our general of the team. It's a matter of getting good ball to our nine and 10.

''We need to control the ball we get, use it properly and hold on to to it for long periods . . . give the ball some air and have a bit of fun.''

Pewhairangi singled out loose forwards Henry Youngman and Willie Blake as two who needed to have a big game.

He was pleased with the addition of Danny King at centre as it added some speed to the backline.

As far as stopping the Arrowtown offensive, Pewhairangi said it was about closing down its time and space.

''Last time they caught us out wide twice.

''They've got good outside backs and they're fast. We know they've got a good forward pack.''

The match gets under way at 2.30pm, at the Queenstown Recreation Ground.
