Rugby: Wakatipu beat Arrowtown to go top

Wakatipu clawed its way to the top of the Central Otago rugby standings after beating Arrowtown 14-11 in atrocious conditions at Jack Reid Park on Saturday afternoon.

Two solid days of rain and two previous matches meant an extremely muddy playing field, which in turn meant a huge number of errors and 10-man rugby.

Arrowtown was on the scoresheet first with a Dylan Fletcher penalty goal from in front but it was not long before Tony Farley had evened things up for Wakatipu.

Both men kicked another goal before Wakatipu went ahead 9-6 before halftime as Arrowtown's penalty count skyrocketed.

Farley strolled over for a try in the second half but Arrowtown eventually hit back with a try to hooker Nathan Pullar. However, the Wakatipu defence held fast after that and side scored a rare win over its bitter rival.
