The Spirit was gutsy but ultimately outgunned, conceding seven tries in each half.
The visitors from the north had too much firepower right throughout the team.
Big outside back Chelsea Alley came on in the second half and helped herself to three tries while classy Black Ferns outside back Victoria Grant also scored a hat trick. She scored one lovely try in the second half when she broke through the middle and then brushed aside the remaining Otago defenders to dot down under the posts.
Otago started well and when it had the ball, the home team looked composed but too often it would lose it and Auckland would sweep on to attack.
Otago scored its points 11 minutes into the second half, after an attempted clearing kick by Auckland captain and halfback Emma Jensen was charged down.
The ball was picked up by replacement prop Kerry Stoddart who showed a nifty pair of heels to shuffle around a player and then dive over to score.
But any chance of that causing Auckland to become organised quickly disappeared as it was just too fast and too ruthless for the Spirit.
Best for the home team was prop and captain Beth Mallard, and fellow front-rower Pip Love, who never stopped trying.
Loose forward Leyhana Van Vugt ran all day and made plenty of tackles while No 8 Nicola Crawford refused to throw in the towel.
Out the back, first five-eighth Maxine McInnes kicked well for position and young centre Greer Muir showed some nice touches.
The loss brings to a close a season in which Otago managed a draw with Manawatu, a 13-12 loss to Hawkes Bay and three hefty losses to Wellington, Canterbury and Auckland.
Coach Tim Belcher was keen to return next year and hoped to get some training started early.
