Rugby: Review starts for coaches

The review of the Highlanders' coaches got under way yesterday but any decision on the future of head coach Glenn Moore seems some time away.

Both Moore and assistant coach Peter Russell fronted up to the review, which is likely to go for several days.

Highlanders chairman Ross Laidlaw said the review had started yesterday and would continue for the next few days.

Having a test in Dunedin at the same time as the review complicated matters, he said.

The review was a detailed look at a season which had started with high hopes but ended in disappointment, the side winning just three games and ending in 12th position.

Laidlaw said any decision about the coaches and their future would not be released until the end of next week at the earliest.

He could not comment on their future while the review was under way.

Moore has one year left on his contract, while Russell has indicated he is keen to come back after his two-year contract finished at the end of this season.

But the disappointing results of this season has put the duo's future in doubt.

The other assistant coach, Barry Matthews, is employed by the Highlanders and is not part of the review.

Laidlaw was joined on the review panel by Highlanders project manager Roger Clark, NZRU board member Graham Mourie and NZRU high-performance manager Mike Chu.
