The tide has changed for Pirates. They finished bottom last year but are certain to move up the ranks after thrashing Green Island 53-26 in the opening round of Dunedin premier club rugby today.

Soloman T-pole was the star for Pirates as they scored seven tries in a blistering display.

It was a day of high scores with Dunedin scoring seven tries when beating Harbour 46-5.

University put their foot down in the second spell to beat Alhambra-Union 50-22 after leading 14-10 at the break.

Lock Tom Franklin was at his rugged best when Southern outclassed Kaikorai 37-24.

Last year's champions Taieri scored four tries when beating a gallant Zingari-Richmond 29-18.

The scores were: Dunedin 46, Harbour 5; University 50, Alhambra-Union 22; Southern 37,Kaikorai 24; Pirates 53, Green Island 26; Taieri 29, Zingari-Richmond 18.
