Rugby: Pirates beat Green Island 42-10

Pirates halfback Steve Bruce chipped ahead, regathered and scored the opening try within two minutes to help set up a comfortable win over Green Island at Miller Park.

The try set the tone for the first 20min with Pirates dominating all phases of the game.

It led 15-0 before Green Island rallied with a try to Chris O'Neill before half-time.

The second 40min was all Pirates.

Glenn Dickson added an early penalty to get the scoreboard moving, and tries to lock Anthony Teaupa and fullback James Rosenburg put the result beyond doubt.

Bruce and Adam Gavegan added late tries to stretch the margin to 32 points.

Pirates 42 (Steve Bruce 2, Josh Clark, James Rosenburg, Anthony Teaupa, Adam Gavegan tries; Glenn Dickson 3 conversions, 2 penalty goals), Green Island 10 (Chris O'Neill try; Shannon Young conversion, penalty goal).
