He was thrilled with his side's 29-9 victory over North Harbour last night.
"You can talk as much as you want about self-belief and confidence, but that comes through winning. The-self belief the guys have can only be boosted by the win," he said.
""We knew we have the skills and ability to win games but the self-belief becomes so much more from winning."
Martin said the side had talked about wanting to convert chances and had done exactly that in the first half, scoring three tries.
To score a fourth try near the end and get a bonus point, was the icing on the cake.
Otago defended well in the second half, he said, but made a few errors in trying to get out of its own territory and that gave the ball back to Harbour.
"But our defence still hung in there and we didn't let them in, which is something to be proud of."
He praised a better effort at the breakdown, and the maturing play of fullback Ben Smith.
Otago captain Alando Soakai was happy with a marked improvement from last week and said any time the line was not crossed had to be pleasing.
"The guys showed a lot of heart in defence. They tried to attack us through the fringes and we wanted to shut them down," Soakai said.
Otago second five-eighth Luke Herden was forced off the field late in the first half with a thigh injury.
Replacement halfback Johnny Legg left the field late in the game with a potentially serious leg injury.
Harbour coach Craig Dowd was left ruing his side's poor start and said it had to play catch-up rugby in the second half, and that led to errors.
