Rugby: Manu a keen starter

They talk about breaks, and the need for rotation and rest. Nasi Manu will have none of it.

He has started every game for the Highlanders this season and wants that to continue.

After all, this was the guy who played just six minutes of last year's campaign before getting injured and not being sighted again.

"It has been awesome this year. First time I've had so much game time for a long while. I'm loving it," he said.

"I think I've just been more professional about things. Really getting serious about my rehab. I'm the king of rehab now."

Manu (22) has been a real key for the Highlanders this season.

His ability to clean up bad ball and get the side over the advantage line has been a major positive for the side.

But the examinations keep coming, starting tonight against the Crusaders. Manu will face off against many of his Canterbury team-mates in Nelson, and he is wanting to exact some revenge after the Crusaders handed out a 40-point hammering earlier in the season.

"I don't know what it was about that game but we just felt like we were never going to win it at any stage," he said.

"This time we have got a better game plan, gelling together, knowing what to do. Last week, it was still not the complete performance but we just executed well, passes stuck and we used the ball better."

Manu said the team had grown in confidence since that loss to the Crusaders.

The Highlanders have not been beaten since then and Manu said there may be changes in his fellow loose forwards, but he had every confidence in the new boys.

John Hardie and Jarrad Hoeata come into the team to replace Alando Soakai and Adam Thomson.

"I've played a lot of age-group rugby with John [Hardie] and I don't think we'll lose anything by having them in there."
