Leslie is to be joined by Shayne Flanagan and Matt Carrington in coaching University A next season.
Leslie, who played 123 games for Otago, took over coaching the University A side this year, and it finished third after being knocked out by Dunedin in the semifinals of the premier club competition.
He coached the University Blue colts for three years with former All Black Josh Kronfeld, and that duo moved up to the premier ranks, coaching the A side last season.
Kronfeld is moving to Auckland next year, and Leslie approached Flanagan to help him coach the Varsity forwards.
Flanagan had coached at Alhambra-Union and Dunedin for 20 years, and his knowledge of forward play would be a boost, Leslie said.
Carrington, a former Auckland and Otago fullback, will help Leslie coach the back three and with kicking skills.
Carrington is in the final year of physiotherapy studies at the University of Otago and intends to stay in Dunedin.
Leslie said Kronfeld would keep an eye out for players in the Auckland region, to send South.
He said he was looking forward to taking part in an uninterrupted club season next year.
Coaching Otago was something he was keen to do, but not before 2010 at the earliest.
Leslie said he was concentrating on getting his business, Leslie Rugby, established.
"I want to get the business up and running and then be able to coach rugby for the sheer passion of it, rather than it being my job," he said.
Otago coach Steve Martin is at the end of his three-year contract and is keen to coach the team again next year.
Martin is under pressure to hang on to his job after his side failed to make the quarterfinals of the Air NZ Cup.
A decision on the coaching job is expected by the end of next week.
