Rugby: Green Island notch big win over students

Centre Roma Roma Sauileoge was in blistering form as Green Island rattled on five tries and 38 points in the second spell at Miller Park.

University A had controlled the first half, was on top in territory and possession in the first 40 minutes, and was unlucky to be down 10-5 at the break. A try by dynamic flanker Tala Moli gave Green Island the lead.

It was one-sided in the second spell, as Green Island dominated the set pieces. Locks Josh Beer and Jamie Waller gave Green Island control of the lineout and its strong scrum took three tight heads off the students.

Halfback Dean Moeahu gave Green Island quick ball and Sauileoge put it to good use by cutting holes in the student defence and setting up tries.

Fullback Devin Stapley had pace when entering the line and scored two tries.

The students had no answer to the ferocity of the Green Island attacks in the second spell. No 8 Dale Jarden, the best student player, attempted to stem the tide and was backed by halfback Nick Annear and lock Sam Henry.

Green Island 48 (Devin Stapley 2, Dean Moeahu, Tala Moli, Josh Beer, Sofele Tuiganala, Roma Sauileoge tries; Joe Bartlett 5 con, pen), University A 15 (Dale Jarden, Sam Buchanan tries; Stephen Fenemor con, pen). Halftime: Green Island 10-5.
