Rugby: Five OBHS players in SI team

Promising Otago Boys' High School midfield back Mike Collins is one of five players from his school named in the South Island team for next week's schools tournament at Hamilton.

Collins scored a brilliant solo try when Otago Boys' beat King's 23-13 in the interschool match at Carisbrook last week.

He has impressed all season with his ability to break the line and also for his rock-like defence.

The other players from Otago Boys' in the team are Liam Edwards (fullback), Kurt Hammer (halfback), Brodie Hume (flanker) and Josh Reid (flanker).

There are seven players from the Highlanders First XV competition in the 24-strong squad, with the other two coming from Southland Boys'.

They are Scott Eade (first five-eighth) and Raimona Tukiterangi (prop).

The South Island will play teams from the the Hurricanes, Chiefs and Blues franchises.

A New Zealand Schools team will be named at the end of the week to play Australia at Littlebourne on October 6.

The coach of the South Island team is former Southland coach Phil Young.
