All premier division 1 rugby matches in Dunedin today have been postponed until tomorrow, due to extreme weather conditions and a significant wind-chill factor.
The matches which include the final round of the Gallaway Trophy will decide the top six teams to contest the championship round, beginning with quarterfinal matches next weekend.
Currently University A heads the leader board on 50 points, followed by Kaikorai (49), Southern (47), Alhambra-Union (38), Dunedin (35), Pirates (31), Zingari Richmond (30), Harbour (29), Green Island (7) and University B (0).
As it stands University A, Kaikorai, Southern and Alhambra-Union are all assured of places in the top six, with results from this weekends final round of the Gallaway competition determining the final two teams.
The bottom placed four sides will contest a Countrywide competition along with the top two Otago country championship sides Lawrence and Heriot.
Lawrence have fashioned an incredible record this season, winning all 14 of its games to date and amassing 635 points with just 33 points against. For a side averaging 45 points every game, it will prove a more than handy opponent for the four Dunedin sides.
Zingari Richmond went through undefeated to win the Countrywide competition last year, defeating Lawrence in the final match 33-17. But the Montecillo-based side will be hoping for better opportunities this year and could prove a more than capable side should results go its way in this final round of matches, and it makes its way into the top six to contest the championship rounds.
The draw now moved to Sunday is: Southern v Dunedin (Bathgate Park), 2,45pm; Kaikorai v Zingari Richmond (Bishopscourt), 2.45pm; Alhambra-Union v Green Island (North Ground) 2.45pm; Pirates v University A (Hancock Park), 1pm); Harbour v University B (Watson Park) 3pm.
Should matches be called off again tomorrow, the round will all be transferred through to next Saturday, and the championships rounds moved forward to the following weekends.
