Clutterbuck (24), a commerce student at the University of Otago, has a marketing exam on Friday.
Less than 24 hours later he will be running on to the Ashburton showgrounds to play for North Otago against Mid Canterbury in a Meads Cup semifinal.
Clutterbuck, who has been the club player of the year two years in a row in Dunedin, said the last few months have just flown by.
"You don't have a lot of downtime. You have got two trainings up there and on top of that you have to do all your own training," he said.
The side played half its games away from Oamaru and on those times Clutterbuck, who is a loan player, and other Dunedin-based players stayed in Oamaru after training on Thursday night.
So last Thursday, Clutterbuck left Dunedin at 5pm and did not get back to the city until 5pm on Sunday.
He spent Thursday night in Oamaru, and then on Friday the side bussed through to Christchurch, flew to Palmerston North and then bussed to Wanganui.
He played the game, which the side lost, on Saturday before turning around and coming back to Dunedin via plane, bus and car on Sunday.
All for the love of rugby, as the Heartland Championship is amateur.
The travel does not help studying, as Clutterbuck said long periods of time where you could sit down and study were few and far between.
Despite that, Clutterbuck said he has really enjoyed his season with the North Otago side.
"They're an awesome bunch of guys. We've got a really good mix of cultures which makes for a fun time."
The loose forward, who has mainly played on the blindside flank for North Otago but may play No 8 this week because of injury, said last weekend's match against Wanganui was a lot more physical than a club match.
Wanganui won 19-8.
He said the pace of the game varied greatly from game to game though he was expecting an increase in the pace in the semifinal.
He missed the game between the two sides in the regular season, won by Mid Canterbury, as he attended a family wedding.
With Otago struggling in the openside flanker ranks in the past season, Clutterbuck was tipped by many to make the Otago side.
But he was not in the picture, which Clutterbuck admitted had disappointed him.
"But the coaches said for me to work on a few things and I totally respect those guys for what they said."
Clutterbuck said the coaches told him he had to be stronger on defence, and sharpen up in other areas.
As for this Saturday, he said the side would have taken a lot from the match against Wanganui, which was a tough, rugged encounter.
"I don't know what to expect really. I haven't seen a lot of Mid Canterbury. But we had a hard game last weekend and that would have fired us up and helped us for this weekend."
