Carisbrook could be in line to host the Super 15 final but it is going to have to rely on a few results falling the right way and fighting off the competition of other cities.

The Crusaders are without a home ground as AMI Stadium was put out of use after the February 22 earthquake. The side has played home games in Nelson, Timaru and Napier.

It is set to play its last home game of the round in Wellington as it takes on the Hurricanes this Saturday night.

With the win over the Blues in Timaru on Saturday night, the Crusaders have secured a place in the top six and, depending on results, could make it into the top two after this weekend's final round of games.

Finishing in the top two means skipping the first week of the playoffs and then having home advantage in the second week of the playoffs.

The top-ranked team after week two of the playoffs will host the final.

The Crusaders sit in third spot on 57 points, one point behind the Stormers and five points behind the table-topping Reds, so it may be a tough ask to host the final.

The Stormers play the Cheetahs in Bloemfontein while the Reds travel to Hamilton to play the Chiefs.

A Crusaders spokesman said yesterday that Carisbrook was in the running to host the final along with Wellington and Auckland.

No decision will be made on the location of the ground for the final for at least another couple of weeks as it all depended on how the Crusaders are tracking.

Otago Rugby Football Union general manager Richard Reid said he had been asked to prepare a few figures for the Crusaders last week and he was waiting to hear back from them.

All home playoff games for the Crusaders before the final, would be played in Nelson.

With temporary seating, Trafalgar Park has a capacity of about 18,000, and players were keen to play in home territory.

Sanzar yesterday cleared up any confusion on qualifying for the playoffs.

If teams are equal on points in any position in either the conference or the overall table the rankings will be determined by: most wins from all matches, then highest aggregate points difference from all matches; then most tries from all matches then highest aggregate difference in tries for and against from all matches.

If the teams can still not be separated then a toss of a coin will decide the winner.
