The Otago Rugby Football Union confirmed it would bring in 450 temporary seats for the Tri-Nations test on July 12 after the game sold out at lunchtime yesterday.
The temporary tickets will go on sale this morning.
Just 500 tickets went on national sale yesterday and, after intense demand from all parts of the country, they were gone within hours, ORFU marketing manager Chris Green told the Otago Daily Times.
It ended a remarkable - for recent times - period in which Otago and Southland fans responded to the call to support the game.
"We're just blown away. We're staggered at what the response has been," Green said yesterday.
"We've had calls from people from out of town who have tried to get tickets over the Internet and they just weren't available.
That shows how the people down here still have huge support for rugby."
More than 27,000 tickets were sold.
Add in nearly 2000 lounge and corporate box fans, and the temporary seating, and Carisbrook will bulge at the seams with nearly 30,000 people on July 12.
The temporary seats will be in front of the Main and Rose stands and cost $80 for high rows and $50 for low rows.
Tickets are only available through the Carisbrook office.
Meanwhile, the ORFU has contacted the four winners of its club incentive which also helped boost ticket sales.
Taieri (Dunedin), Maheno (North Otago), Clutha (South Otago) and Eastern Hawks (Southland) will represent the four regions of the South in a display of Rippa rugby as a curtain-raiser to the test.
