Rugby: Arrowtown strike late to secure win

Arrowtown scored a last-minute win over Clyde-Earnscleugh at the Queenstown Events Centre after the visitors had controlled play for most of the match.

Clyde got off to a fantastic start with a converted try to first five eighth Ryan Edgerton after 20 minutes of mistakes from Arrowtown.

It built pressure near the Arrowtown line and eventually Edgerton got outside an Arrowtown forward to stroll over. Only two Dylan Fletcher penalty goals kept the home side in touch, Clyde-Earnscleugh leading 7-6 at the break.

After halftime, Clyde-Earnscleugh flanker Reuben O'Connell crashed over from an Arrowtown mistake at the kick-off. But the home side finally responded with an Eddie Sefo try from close range to get within one point at 12-11.

Arrowtown then went ahead, if only briefly, through Fletcher's third penalty goal.

Clyde-Earnscleugh winger J B Reeves scored almost straight after.

A desperate Arrowtown then spent the next 15 minutes trying to smash over the Clyde-Earnscleugh line from close range and finally, with time up, replacement prop Hori Elers was driven over the line to score the winning try.

Arrowtown prop Matthew Ropoama won the man-of-thematch award for a huge game with ball in hand and on defence.
