Alexandra put together an excellent second half to give Arrowtown a scare. The teams were locked at 31-31 at the final whistle.
At Molyneux Park in Alexandra, Arrowtown made all the play in the first half and got out to a 24-0 lead. It scored four tries in the first half including a double to wing Daniel Eyles, who showed good pace in both long-range efforts.
Fullback Kane Dodds and centre Tyne Schofield also crossed for tries.
The second half was a totally different story. Referee Trevor Gaston was replaced after a hamstring injury and Alexandra pounced.
The home side starved Arrowtown of the ball and built multiple phases to put the visitors under enormous pressure. It scored five tries in 35 minutes to take a 31-24 lead with five minutes to play.
Blair van der Voort, Nathan Lyons, Michael Davies, Shaun Monaghan and Sam Malcolm all scored well-constructed tries.
Fortunately for Arrowtown, it remained calm enough to allow halfback Josh Brazier to cross from close range and then first five-eighth Dylan Fletcher to slot the crucial conversion.
