Veteran Taieri lock Kurt Webster (33) played his 100th match for the side and Taieri paid tribute by winning the hard-fought battle 15-8.
When spoken to by the Taieri Times last week, he said he was looking forward to the occasion.
''It's going to be good.
''Playing your 100th game on your home track is pretty cool.
''My grandfather played 100 games for the club, too, so that's pretty special.''
Although Webster could not recall exactly when he played his first match for the club, he thought it was at home against ''either Green Island or Zingari''.
''I can't remember. It was too long ago,'' he joked.
The highlight of his time at the club was three competition wins in 2011, 2012 and 2014.
''You can't get better than three banners in four years. It was pretty special for the club, especially being four or five years in the prem two grade before being promoted,'' he said.
Webster credited premier coach Eric Vaafusuaga and former coach Phil Young as influences along the way.
''He [Vaafusuaga] was a guy I sort of grew up watching.''
Saturday's match was also memorable for Taieri prop Aki Seiuli, who played his 50th game for the club.
Taieri's victory over Southern cemented its third place in the competition with two rounds to play before the semifinals.
Taieri is away to Alhambra-Union this Saturday and finishes pool play with a match at home against Dunedin.
