Brace yourselves for some shocking news.
Otago Boys’ High School, Southland Boys’ High School, King’s High School and John McGlashan College are through to the semifinals of the Otago premier schools competition, and in that order.
No real surprise there.
They have been the best four sides all season.
The difference this year is there is not as much among the top four as there has been previously. That said, Otago Boy’s warmed up for the semis with a 47-12 away win over John McGlashan at the weekend.
They meet again in the semifinals this Saturday.
Otago Boys’ was undefeated in round two and is probably favourite to defend its title. The other semifinal will be between Southland Boys’ and King’s.
They both had big wins at the weekend. Southland Boys’ thumped Mt Aspiring 72-0 in Wanaka, and King’s dispatched South Otago 75-7 in
Milton.
Southland Boys’ edged King’s 17-10 when they last met. But King’s won 12-10 earlier in the year.
In other results, Waitaki Boys’ High School beat Wakatipu High School 35-12 in Queenstown, and will play Mt Aspiring College in the middle four playoffs.
Fellow Oamaru school St Kevin’s College beat the Otago Boys’ Second XV 29-7 in Dunedin and will play South Otago High School in the other middle four playoff game.
Dunstan High School was too strong for the Combined Co-Eds, winning 67-10 in Alexandra.
Dunstan will contest the bottom four playoffs with Wakatipu, the Otago Boys’ Second XV and the Combined Co-Eds.
