The game is coming and what every game needs is also here.

With community rugby set to get back on its feet in the next few weeks, the Otago Rugby Football Union has lent a hand to its clubs. Through sponsors it has supplied items of gear and equipment for the playing of the game.

Gilbert southern regional representative Regan Finch said more than 1000 balls would be distributed to clubs around the region as players get ready to get the season under way.

The union has also donated coach diaries, concussion protocol instructions and rugby smart packs for teams and helping the running of clubs.

Junior rugby is to start in Dunedin on July 4 though it will start earlier in the country regions.

The Otago union was aware of the financial implications faced by clubs and would be considering the issue.

With the season shortened and clubs looking to cut costs, questions have asked about affiliation fees and ground fees.

Otago Rugby Football Union general manager Richard Kinley said the union was working through the financial implications Covid-19 was having on the game and clubs.

As the picture became clearer over the next few weeks, the issue would be considered by the board.

The board had already been made aware of the issue and it was set to go to the board’s audit and risk committee at its next meeting.
