Highlanders prop Daniel Lienert-Brown has copped a three-week suspension for the incident that caused chaos in his team’s game against the Blues at the weekend.

It is likely, however, the veteran will miss only two games.

Lienert-Brown was found guilty of dangerous play in a ruck when he faced the Super Rugby Pacific Judicial Committee on Tuesday night.

The incident happened in the 59th minute of the Highlanders’ 29-21 win over the Blues when the prop barged into a ruck and straight into the shoulder/arm of Blues halfback Taufa Funaki.

He was shown a yellow card that was later upgraded to a red.

It led to confusing scenes as the Highlanders, who already had two props sidelined by injury, had to call for golden oldies scrums and go down to 13 men.

The judicial committee, consisting of Nigel Hampton KC, former Otago rugby player turned district court judge Mike Mika and John Langford, ruled the act of foul play merited a mid-range entry point of six weeks.

Lienert-Brown was given the full 50% reduction in sanction as he accepted he committed an act of foul play and there were mitigating factors, such as his disciplinary record, remorse and conduct.

The prop was also given permission to apply to take part in World Rugby’s coaching intervention programme — the notorious "tackle school" — which will mean a further week being taken off the sanction.

It should mean Lienert-Brown will miss tomorrow night’s game against Moana Pasifika in Auckland and, following the bye, the home game against the Hurricanes on March 14.

The Highlanders have reasonable depth at prop following the recruitment of Sefo Kautai and Josh Bartlett, while Rohan Wingham is a developing talent.
