A win is always a bonus for a side, but it also brings some selection headaches and the question of whether all players can get into the starting team.
The side showed some real quality on attack and defence in the 33-31 win over the Chiefs in Hamilton on Sunday.
Josh Ioane had his first minutes on the field after a groin injury had delayed his introduction into Super Rugby Aotearoa.
After what appeared a failed experiment at second five-eighth when Super Rugby kicked off way back in February and March, it looked as though Ioane was set to wear the No 10 jersey when the competition resumed. But injury intervened and Mitch Hunt was put back into the No 10 jersey, where he had previously performed with mixed success.
Hunt, though, has looked much improved since the start of Super Rugby Aotearoa. He is attacking the line more, finding space and linking better with the outsides.
Hunt can play fullback, and was supposed to play there against the Chiefs on June 13, but moved back to first five-eighth when Ioane was injured.
Michael Collins had an impressive game against the Chiefs, playing at fullback and then moving into centre in the second half. Collins does not scream X-factor, but he makes few errors and is a good communicator.
He started his first class career in the midfield but has played fullback for the past five years. It would be a big move to put Collins back into the midfield — or to leave him out of the starting line-up.
Hunt is not tall and may be seen as a risk at fullback without the ability to easily collect the high ball. But it would be tough on him to be moved out of the starting line-up too, as it would for Collins and Ioane.
Jona Nareki will come back into the wing pushing out either Scott Gregory or Josh McKay, who both had their best performances at this level in the victory over the Chiefs. There is also Ngane Punivai who is getting over a head knock.
Nehe Milner-Skudder is yet to start full contact training, so looks unlikely.
In the pack, there should be minimal change. Lock Manaaki Selby-Rickit may look to get a start ahead of Jack Whetton, although the Southlander has been good off the bench.
The loose forwards have done well and will enjoy the week off while the front row is interchangeable this year. Hooker Ash Dixon is playing some of the best rugby of his career and has cemented the starting role ahead of Liam Coltman.
The team has the bye this week and its next game is against the Blues at Forsyth Barr Stadium on August 2.
