Fairfax has reported talented Crusaders' back-up first five-eighth Mitch Hunt is close to reaching an agreement with the Dunedin-based franchise.
He has had his opportunities clipped with the likes of All Blacks Richie Mo'unga and Brett Cameron rated ahead of him at the Crusaders.
But with Highlanders utility Marty Banks off contract at the end of the season, the franchise is on the hunt, for, well, maybe a Hunt.
The 23-year-old, who nailed a 43m dropped goal to seal a dramatic 25-22 win for the Crusaders two years ago, would be a good pick-up.
It would also be a good move for the young man. He would get out from underneath the feet of Mo'unga, who has re-signed with New Zealand Rugby and the Crusaders through to 2022, and have a real opportunity of pressing for a starting spot.
That place is currently occupied by Josh Ioane, who has made good progress in the No10 jersey this season.
Back-up pivot Bryn Gatland's season is over. He injured his foot in the 52-0 win against the Sunwolves in Tokyo last week and has been replaced in the squad by former Bay of Plenty player Dan Hollinshead.
Banks broke his foot in the match against the Hurricanes last month and is making progress. He will miss tomorrow night's match against the Chiefs in Dunedin, though.
